Here is a quick tutorial on How-To configure Windows XP to run Windows Explorer at optimal settings. This info is useful if you are on an older PC or if you just like to have the best performance possible. Granted, it’s just one of many “tuning” settings, but hey, every little bit helps. Along with the tip for speeding up your Explorer shell, I’m also going to review (in step 5) how to increase the stability of your Windows Explorer Shell. Although Step 5 adds a little overhead, I think it’s well worth it, being that if one of your Windows in XP crashes, it won’t take all the other Windows with it. ;) Disable Automatic search for network folders and Printers 1. Go to your Start menu and Click My Computer 2. Then from there Click on the Tools tab at the top of the window; on the drop-menu Click Folder Options 3. Next, in the new window, you’ll need to Click the View tab; from here check and uncheck two separate boxes 4. Uncheck the box that says Automatically search for network folders and printers Enable Launching folder Windows in a separate process 5. Then scroll down and Check the box that says Launch folder windows in a separate process
